OUR MISSION

Mission

Townscape is a nonprofit, volunteer-based organization focused on community beautification and revitalization. Its goal is to enhance existing recreational and public spaces, to work as a catalyst among Millerton’s community organizations, and to promote projects that benefit the entire community.

Background

Townscape was initially formed as a committee of volunteers in 1998 and was officially adopted by the Village of Millerton as a nonprofit entity in 2007. Its founding president and current board member, Catherine Fenn—along with Renee Vollen and Jan Gilmor—possessed the vision and invaluable community skills to shape Townscape into what it is today. Townscape has planted over 40 trees, has created the Millerton Historic District, has helped restore the Millerton clocktower, has decorated the business district with lights for the winter holidays, has organized Arbor Day celebrations in conjunction with local schools, has provided new signage at the entrances to the village, and more. Each of these activities has improved the town and village and has brought together disparate members of the community, working together for a common purpose.
